Going all the way back to Brown vs. The Board of Education in 1954, Doll Studies have consistently shown that Black children as young as 3 and 4, already know that there's a difference between Black and White.  And they already believe that the degree of that difference is a negative one, which means they are already perceiving themselves to be less than, lacking, ugly, not as smart, etc. 

Big doors swing on little hinges.  Placing a beautiful doll of color in the hands of a young Black girl can have a huge impact on how they see themselves and the world around them.
